First I'd like to know how the lines on the right of screen across the field works. Been playing around but not understanding how much this effects the game play.
How much does the four tools effect the game:
Effort
Attack
Defense
Play

I have been moving them around but can't seem to figure out if anything is actually happening.

The lines affect how high or low your attack, midfield, and defense go in accordance to your advanced formations.

Red = forwards
Yellow = midfield
Green = defense

For example, if you put your defensive line to the highest, and your midfield like to the lowest, your defense will be ahead of your midfield which you do not want. Generally, it takes some testing in tinkering to find that balance your formation needs to play around with it until you see what fits you.

Effort is how fast your emery bar depletes and how much stamina you use each game. The just it is, the more stamina and energy you will use up and vice-versa.

Attack would be short passes vs. counter attack. Counter attack means the ball will be played further u quickly while short passes means more of a slow build up play.

Defense would be zonal marking vs man marking. Higher defense means more man to man marking so your team will mark players closer but means your formation would be pulled apart, lower defense means zonal which is more apt to staying in formation.

Play is in the middle vs wings. The lower play is, it means you'll attack more in the middle. The higher play is, means you'll attack more on the wings.

It is better if you go on a computer and check from there in my opinion as you'll see what I am describing.

Think of it a bit simpler.

It changes where the players stand in relation to their position in the formation, advanced or basic.

Put the defensive bar on 18yd line, the defenders will go to roughly where their feet are on the formations.

How they react is a product of where they're at and all sorts of other stuff, but those bars only impact the position.

Thanks for the replies. I will start to play around with the lines as those are the most interesting that I don't quite understand. It seems that it will take some experimenting to get the hang of it. 22/08/2013 07:42

Best scorer
they can be used to adapt to high/deep defences and high/deep attacks without having to adjust your advanced formation.

experimenting is key. try things out in friendlies & pl matches
