If they score own goal often

Then draw them out because they are too deep in your box

Basically this defenders are frustrated players. Imagine going to a business school, doing an Amba and getting a job in firm, but then you realise that all you ever wanted to do was be a painter. Ofcourse your life is going to suck.

Similarly these defenders trained all their lives to defend, but once they got chance to play, they have realised that they wanted to be strikers. Now every now and than, the urge to net the ball will be too strong to resist and the closest net to a defender is their own. So I am sorry, just make sure you talk to them regularly and keep them in good spirits. Hopefully in a few years they will learn to resist the urge.
