It is not easy. Best way to break the news is take him to a public place like a restaurant for dinner and tell him that he is done. That way there won't be a scene. But you need to be more empathetic and after retirement keep in touch with him and his family. Make sure you are good to them. That is the hallmark of a good manager. Infact I am closer to all my retired players. To be quite honest I am even closer to their wives, but that is a conversation for some other day. |
